This Privacy Policy explains how Gecko ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you use the Gecko mobile app and website (the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to the practices described here.

1. Information we collect

Account information

When you sign up, we collect your email address and display name. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive the profile information those providers share (such as email and name).

Climbing and training data

To provide the Service, we store the data you log, including:

• Session details (gym, duration, feeling, session type)
• Boulder logs (grade, color, attempts, sends, style tags)
• Projects, beta notes, and progress
• Training sessions and strength metrics
• Profile preferences (grading system, goals, climber type)

Device and usage information

We may collect device type, operating system, app version, and basic usage events (such as screens viewed and feature usage) to fix bugs and improve the app. We do not sell your personal information.

Payment information

Subscriptions are handled by Apple App Store or Google Play. We do not receive your full payment card details. We may receive subscription status, plan type, and transaction identifiers from the store.

2. How we use your information

We use your information to:

• Provide, sync, and display your climbing logs and statistics
• Authenticate your account and keep the Service secure
• Process subscriptions
• Respond to support requests
• Improve features, fix errors, and understand how the app is used
• Send important service messages (e.g. policy or security updates)

3. How we share information

We share information only in these cases:

• Service providers — We use trusted vendors to host data, authenticate users, and operate infrastructure (e.g. Supabase for database and auth). They process data on our behalf under contractual obligations.
• Legal requirements — If required by law, court order, or to protect rights, safety, and security.
• Business transfers — In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, with notice where required.

We do not share your climbing logs with advertisers.

4. Data storage and security

Your data is stored on secure cloud infrastructure. We use industry-standard measures including encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; we work to protect your data but cannot guarantee absolute security.

5. Data retention

We keep your account and climbing data while your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your personal data within a reasonable period, except where we must retain information for legal, security, or backup purposes.

6. Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

• Access a copy of your personal data
• Correct inaccurate information in your profile
• Delete your account and associated data
• Export your climbing history
• Object to or restrict certain processing
• Withdraw consent where processing is consent-based

7. Children's privacy

Gecko is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.

Your information may be processed in countries other than your own, including where our service providers operate. We take steps to ensure appropriate safeguards for cross-border transfers as required by applicable law.

9. Cookies and website analytics

Our marketing website may use minimal cookies or local storage for basic functionality. If we add analytics on the website, we will update this policy. The mobile app does not use third-party advertising cookies.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post changes on this page and update the "Last updated" date. Significant changes may be communicated in-app or by email.
